It has been a while since I first saw this pics from an awesome diorama.
I have been delaying getting into it and making a Post because in a way it is so much Military Modeling and sculpting that the term Toy Soldier did not seem to apply to it.
After much reflection I decided to make a Post… it deserves it in spades.
There are no comments on the five pics… they are self explanatory I guess.

Probably one of my longest affair with 54MM Toy Soldiers. I wanted to do Nathan Brittles patrol (SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON – John Ford film)… I know I have done it in 6MM… but those are different efforts.
Finally got some weeks ago the casts from REPLICA (Andrew Stevenson)… then I waited for some pistol holsters from DORSET, meanwhile I was cleaning the casts of bits here and there… and gluing the two part kits of horses together… yes… superglue again.
The more difficult model was the troop standard bearer (guidon), Andrew supplied a lancers arm (quite nice on its own I have them on the 9th British Lancers at Kandahar) but it was not what I had in mind… luckily I never throw away discarded parts… so I had a very promissing lance from DUCAL Life Guards I converted to sword carriyng troopers… a bit of paint…
And then an arm (it is a left arm glued as a right arm and would need a bit of putty to disguise the fact)… I was able today of drilling a hole in the hand to receive the guidon… and then I glued all the parts to the body and the horse (it still lacks pistol holster and head).
Was not easy… and I am quite satisfied with my work… so until I finish assembling and painting them… quite a long process because I can do this just an hour a day (and not every day) you will have to wait for more Posts and pics…

I knew he was building an Austrian Army… but the result is magnificent!… now if those pesky Prussians come against them I fear they will lose order, life and limb!

I do not collect in 42MM… for the difference I go always to 54MM… silly me you must think after seeing what Graham does to perfection!. To be fair I have one mounted British Dragoon courtesy of Andrew Stevenson… which I wll paint one of this days… just to show you my poor effort compared with Graham’s!
I am a fan of his work and will publish matter of fact anything he posts in facebook.

In another Post I showed “MY” Royal West Kent Regiment… in fact the Post was not complete because it did not showed the more “action” minis of the Regiment… so… here you have them (painted by me).
They are TRADITION OF LONDON Rifles painted as RWK, and some original to help the composition. The Wagon is from RPWORLD MODELS.
On the lower shelf some medical corps minis including nurses and police officers and “bobbies”… the only “civilians” in my collection… Holmes&Watson + Lestrade + Hansom cab (Some Tradition of London… some RPWORLD MODELS).

In my collection ERII will remain at the head of the Trooping of the Colour display… not that I do not have the Charles III mini too… but there you are I was born in 1952 and habits and frame die hard.
Surely Charles will do a lot of ceremonial but not so many as his mother I fear.
We collectors are like that. I think that I already did a Post about them but not going to check… today is my wife’s anniversary so… a good homage to the Queen of my heart.
Incidentally, Jack Duke from DUCAL did for me a lot of “specials” that are in this pic try to find them…

November 2022… after a long reflection and no REPLICA in the works (yet)… I decided to contact Mr. Antony Spencer from Dorset Soldiers (Imperial Miniatures nowadays) about the possibility of completing some units as to have them organized in “dozens” – aka 12 minis each-).
No problem with “new” sets… you just order 12 minis units and the trick is done…
But it was different with the sets done by REPLICA a couple of years back… it was a task of finding the right hues of paint and the models themselves… mind, they are still in the Post… but have some pics to show you… so here they are!

Red Coated Dragoons and Blue clad Lancers (17th)… Zulu War times more or less.
Once I finished collecting Household Troops I went Colonial for a while… there was always something of interest in the Ducal Catalogue… and if it was not there you politely asked if it could be done… as the fictional standard or colour of the lancers!

Today the minis all are from BACCUS 6MM… ACW detail… and a Crimean War perspective.
Wargamers in this scale must understand the importance of flags: “They make the Unit”.
I embellished a bit the Rebels…
And an apology is due to Greg (done) because the colour and shade of the horses is as I asked for… the day I opened the parcel my eyes were not true to form (and in a hurry!) and I thought they were all the same shade of colour!
Once this said I still prefer the ACW in 6MM to any other period because the size and the real uniforms go well together… Crimean and Napoleonic Units have an excess of detail very hard to “impressionistically” (pointilisme) translate to 6MM (but I can be wrong you know!… have seen marvelous painting (including faces!) of them in 6MM… it is me who do not seem able to achieve the right compromise!… but I stubbornly go on…
