What a good paintjob can do for the castings (all of them) is wonderful.
Her Majesty’s Guards (or Household Division Troops) are a popular choice among collectors or simply aficionados whatever the level. It has much to do with that the daily exposure in such well know military procedures as the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, The handing of the keys at the Tower of London, and similar at Windsor castle. The more “touristic attraction” the more popularity in children minds… So, let it be.
Hardly original subject… but a CLASSIC IMHO. As seen in Facebook.Even with a bit of patience you can do it with Playmobils. (Those are my own).By the end of your “collecting life” you would have gone megalomaniac (well, a bit). Those are mine.
Those musicians are badly needed in any Trooping the Colour ceremonial.
Incidentally as spectators you have the Duke of Wellington, the Emperor of the French N.B. and Admiral Nelson… the only Napoleonic 54MM in my collection.
I have been collecting sets from Tradition of London from decades… I was actually a bit distracted by others periods and scales… but they are always on my mind.
I recently put an order to give a bit of colour at one of my cabinets and Erik supplied (quite fast!) the following set: 1 Officer (British), an NCO (Indian) and two lancers for 4 Regiments with different uniforms… so far so good.
Once the parcel arrived one of the lance shafts was broken above repair and so I contacted them. A replacement is on its way… EXCELLENT service and Communications…
As I loath to gave anything away I did a bit of repairing on the “broken” lancer and he has been raised in rank (twice…LOL) and decorated… and sent the pics to Erik if that can help other customers…
Here are the pics of the little tale…
Enjoy
See broken lance above left.
Detail.
Inspected and small “retouching”
Raised to Corporal (and out of bits of the lance to have a pacing stick)
Raised to RSM and decorated… I did not want to threw it away you know… I try to never do that… sometimes looks good enough!
Finally the replacement (FREE) arrived and the set is complete. Thanks to Erik from Tradition of London for an excellent service.
Was bored while they were doing repairs of the garage door… after all 30 years for a motor is enough… so they had to change it!… meanwhile I took some snapshots with my mobile phone to pass the time.
Here they are.
You’ve seen the cabinets many times before… but this is a new approach I guess…
First I did the RCMP Band… and was pleased by the pic…So I went on and did the Grenadier Guards Close-up.The Band of the Scots Guards (Pipes and Drums out of the pic)A clse-up of my staff car (Dorset Soldiers)And finally King Charles III (A REPLIC Cast painted by me) new addition to command the Household Division after the regretted dead of Queen Elizabeth II.
In my collection ERII will remain at the head of the Trooping of the Colour display… not that I do not have the Charles III mini too… but there you are I was born in 1952 and habits and frame die hard.
Surely Charles will do a lot of ceremonial but not so many as his mother I fear.
We collectors are like that. I think that I already did a Post about them but not going to check… today is my wife’s anniversary so… a good homage to the Queen of my heart.
Incidentally, Jack Duke from DUCAL did for me a lot of “specials” that are in this pic try to find them…
Enjoy!
PS: On second thoughts maybe… just maybe… I will paint a King Charles III… he is from my generation after all…
When I was a child I was fascinated by those red coated Guards… got a box of Britains with Coldstream Guards… and then when I started collecting “seriously” they were my first addiction… I bought books about them and slowly it dawnwd on me that it was five different Regiments! LOL
Well… there they are (with some other minis just for fun)
Enjoy!
Grenadiers above, Coldstream below.Scots above and Irish below.Welsh Guards
There are parts of my Collection that do not move at all… they were completed to my satisfaction and that’s that.
BUT… if I started anew they would be the first one’s I will build… see what I mean?
The British Household Cavalry Life Guards and Blues&Royals is that special part of my voyage ineludible because I was always in awe of the magnificent pageantry and display.
So here you have them in all their splendid uniforms.
Britain’s extra large set (two trays) Coldstream Guards… fantastic gift from my parents!detail
On a trip to London (UK) my parents had the great idea of bringing to me this awesome set of BRITAINS… one of the last produced before going “plastic”!
I was really pampered because I had been sick for quite a time.
Now, that brought along a lot of reminiscences… just seen in an Auction in the USA… not that I am going to bid at all… I had the real thing at the time it was needed…
I already had a lot of plastic, rubber and aluminium toy soldiers… but that box suddenly become the apex of my loot!
Sorry for the poor quality of the pics but they were really small.
As a result you all know I was hooked on Toy Soldiers for life…
